Privacy
In short
- Discipline is a small personal app, shared with friends and family. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and nothing is ever sold.
- Your day, habits, notes and chat stay on your own device: in this browser on the website, or in a folder on your Mac in the app.
- The only thing that is sent to anyone is a line you choose to flag COMMENT — it goes to the person who makes the app, with the name you gave and any pictures on it.
- If you joined the tester list and opened the app from your personal link, the dates you used it are sent too — only the dates, never what you wrote.
- WHOOP and calendar connections only read, and you can disconnect them at any time.
Where your things are kept
- On the website, everything you make — your day, habits, check-ins, chat lines and their pictures — is stored in your browser's own storage on that device. It is not uploaded. Clearing the browser's site data erases it, so the app lets you EXPORT a backup file to keep yourself.
- In the Mac app, everything is plain files in a Discipline folder on your Mac. The app's settings (a calendar address, WHOOP keys and sign-in tokens) are kept in the app's own settings file on the same Mac, never in the folder.
- If you use the app with Claude, Claude Code (made by Anthropic) reads that folder on your Mac when you run it. That is your choice, on your own files, and Anthropic's privacy policy covers it.
COMMENTs to the maker
In CHAT you can flag a line as COMMENT — an idea, a bug, a confusing screen. Only those lines leave your device. They are sent to this website and kept there for the person who makes the app, who reads them to improve it.
- What is kept: the name you typed the first time, the words, up to three pictures on that line, the date and time, the app version, and whether it came from the website or a Mac.
- To stop floods, the website counts comments per internet (IP) address for about an hour; that count is then deleted. Nothing else about you is recorded.
- Nobody but the maker can read them. Your other chat lines are never sent.
- To have a comment removed, ask the person who sent you the app.
The tester list
If you signed up on the JOIN page to test the app, the maker keeps what you typed there: your name, the name to show on the thank-you list (or none), your email, whether you use the website or the Mac app, whether you are a student or an adult, what you'd like to help with, your language, and when you joined. He uses your email to send you changes and new versions.
- You get a personal link with a short code in it. Only a copy of the app opened from that link (or, on a Mac, set up with that code) sends anything about use: on a day you mark something — a habit, a block, the end of the day — it sends that day's date and your code, once. Never what you wrote, when, or anything else from your day.
- The dates count toward the stars on the tester list. Your COMMENTs carry the same code, so they count too.
- To stop: turn off SETTINGS → CONNECTIONS → COUNT MY DAYS FOR NIK and nothing more is sent. To be taken off the list, with your dates, email the maker — reply to any email from him.
Your calendar
You can paste your calendar's private address (Google, Apple or Outlook) to see your events next to your day. The app only reads it, every 15 minutes, and never changes your calendar.
- On the Mac, the app fetches the calendar itself and keeps the address and a copy of upcoming events in its settings file on your Mac.
- On the website, calendars don't let a web page read them directly, so the website fetches the feed on your behalf and hands it straight back. Nothing is stored or logged on the way. The address is kept in your browser.
WHOOP
If you connect WHOOP, Discipline asks WHOOP for these permissions and nothing more:
| Permission | What Discipline keeps from it |
|---|---|
read:sleep | For each night: minutes asleep and in bed; deep, REM, light and awake minutes; sleep performance; breathing rate; when sleep started and ended. Naps are left out. |
read:recovery | For each morning: recovery %, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and whether WHOOP is still calibrating. |
read:cycles | For each day: day strain, and average and maximum heart rate. |
read:profile | Your first name only, to show which account is connected. |
offline | Lets the app stay connected without signing in again. It stores no data of its own. |
| Not requested | Workouts, body measurements, your email address, and the heart-rate timeline. |
- The numbers are saved where the rest of your things are: in
data/whoop.jsonin your Mac folder, or in your browser on the website. The app checks WHOOP about every 30 minutes while it is open. - On the website, WHOOP doesn't answer web pages directly, so the website passes your requests to WHOOP and the answers back to you. It keeps nothing. Your sign-in tokens are kept in your browser.
- You type your WHOOP password only on WHOOP's own page. Discipline never sees it.
- Disconnect any time in SETTINGS → WHOOP. The app deletes its tokens; the numbers already saved stay as your history until you delete them. You can also remove Discipline from the apps connected to your WHOOP account.
Discipline is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with WHOOP, Inc.
Changes
If Discipline ever keeps more, or keeps it anywhere else, this page will change first, and the date at the top with it.
